This engine has the lowest parts count and is easiest to construct by those who choose to do the machining themselves. Most of the engine is constructed from cast iron castings with a few parts machined from regular steel stock. This engine is suitable for any use where the higher steam consumption is not important, such as stationary applications; nevertheless, it can be used to drive a displacement type hull at brisk speeds.

The Reliable Compound engine is suitable for marine or stationary use. It has proved itself for many years. Its design provides dependable operation and there is ample safety factor in all parts. The weight of complete engine is 87 lbs. It will drive a boat 15 to 25 feet long at 6 to 10 mph depending on the displacement of the boat and its design. The casting kit consists of 41 cast iron pieces including a cast semi steel crank shaft which is strong, wear resistant and readily machinable. The design is especially made for easy construction and most of the work may be done on a 12 inch lathe and drill press.

The Reliable Double Simple engine is similar to the Compound, EN.02 - the low pressure cylinder of the compound is replaced with a second, high pressure cylinder. In all other respects the engines are the same. The engine is suitable for marine or stationary use. Positive starting and dependable operation is ensured by the 90o crank. The casting kit consists of 41 cast iron pieces including a cast semi steel crank shaft and the finished engine weighs 87 lbs.

This engine is the only Triple Expansion Engine available in the USA in its capacity, and a small version of the larger yacht engines used many years ago. It is suitable for use in hulls 16 to 25 feet long, and will drive such boats at 10 mph or better, depending on the hull. The engine incorporates some of the best features of the old engines, plus functional simplicity and rugged construction. There are 59 castings in the set; the castings weigh about 198 lbs; and the finished engine weighs 155 lbs.

The Reliable Walking Beam engine is characteristic of the earliest steam engines. It may be used for either marine or stationary purposes, and will run either forward or reverse. This is accomplished by turning the flywheel 1/2 turn in the desired direction. This engine is robust and special attention has been given in the design to give castings of a picturesque appearance. The casting kit contains thirty pieces and weighs about 127 lbs. The finished engine weighs 118 lbs.
 
This engine uses our 4 - 7 HP Ofeldt boiler, and is suitable for our Rebel boat.

This heavy duty, short stroke, twin is built in two types. The compound expansion type is for single direction rotation such as generating service. The single expansion type is for marine or other use where reversing is desired. Steam cutoff may be built short or long as desired. Plans include drawings for both configurations. Both of these engines are high speed type, with spool valves and totally enclosed configuration for long hard service. Casting kit weighs about 125 lbs. and finished engine is 120 lbs.
 
In the lower horsepower and pressure range, we recommend our 4 - 7 HP Ofeldt boiler. At higher pressures and horsepower, the 15 - 40 HP Ofeldt would be better - especially when fitted to our Panatela or Gypsy boats.

This engine is suitable for marine, auto, or stationary use. As a marine plant it will drive hulls 20 to 35 feet long, and as a light auto plant it will deliver smoth power from zero to maximum speed. The engine is of closed crankcase type with semibalanced spool valves. Self-starting at any crank angle. Direct reversing with a 4-way valve. Casting kit contains 19 pieces including the cast, semi-steel crankshaft. Casting kit weighs about 200 lbs. and finished engine weighs 175 lbs.
 
We recommend our 15 - 40 HP Monotube Boiler. This would be a good engine/boiler combination for our Reverie boat, or an automotive installation.

Reliable offers this engine to amateur constructors for use as an automotive or marine power plant. The design is of closed crankcase type with spool valves. There are no dead centered positions of the crankshaft so starting is always positive in reponse to the throttle. The design uses many commercial parts which are readily available. The casting kit consists of 19 pieces, including cast semi-steel crankshaft, and weighs about 250 lbs. The finished engine is about 240 lbs. Construction requires use of a 16 inch lathe, milling machine, and drill press.
 
We recommend our 50 - 125 HP Monotube Boiler.

We have often heard people say: "A steam boat can't go as fast as my xxxxx powered boat". Despite the fact that many of us prefer to measure our speed in "fun per mile" rather than "miles per hour", we have developed this engine for the person who wants "raw horsepower". Capable of delivering 1,050 lb.ft. of torque - torque output chart - this power plant should satisfy the rapid ( maybe "rabid" ) steam power fiend.

No castings are used to build this single stage, geared impulse type steam turbine. Casing and some parts are made from stock aluminum and steel materials; other parts - bearings, gears, etc. - are commercially available. A durable workhorse of a small, practical, steam turbine.
